We are female physicians of African descent practicing in Central Gulf Coast Alabama. We have come together to promote healthcare awareness, education and preventative medicine in the surrounding communities. The Society serves as a means of networking. mentoring and a platform for exchange of ideas and professional support.
By virtue of embodying both the female gender and belonging to a racial minority, we offer a unique perspective on disparities in providing, healthcare for the underserved. We desire to not only highlight health related inequalities but to be effective instruments of change by employing scientific knowledge, mentoring, and legislative involvement to bring about a real change in both the field of medicine and closing the gap of delivery of adequate healthcare to those communities.
What would it look like if a group invested themselves in the underserved communities? Approaching issues not in a role of savior but rather as a partner – engaging, encouraging, educating and empowering.
What would it look like if an organization reached out to underrepresented children and young adults? Participating in and providing programs and activities to promote opportunities and success.
What would it look like if there was a dedicated space in our City for female physicians of African descent? A society of like-minded individuals coming together to have a platform to exchange ideas, have a professional network and a Sisterhood – all with the goal to make a difference.
It would look like US – Mobile Metropolitan Medical Society.
Committed to SERVE, SUPPORT and by uniting to achieve STRENGTH.
